This is a question that a lot of people need to know to organise a safe testing process. It is not a completely black and white subject as some areas and equipment can be tested more quickly than others.
For example an industrial setup with grinders, drills and lots of 110V equipment and extension leads can take much longer than a simple office setup.
As a guide in a well organised office a single user should not experience an inconvenience of longer than 5-10 minutes. In an industrial situation as described above a rate of 10-20 appliances per hour would be normal.
We however don’t focus on the length of time it takes to complete the job, we focus on doing it properly and in full. It is very important that electrical equipment is disconnected from the electrical supply. Subjected to a full visual examination and appropriate test process. As such a level of localised disruption will be unavoidable during PAT testing.
