Its a myth that equipment not connected via a plug should be omitted from PAT testing. Fixed appliance testing is an important consideration for your electrical safety It’s often thought this should be left to the fixed wire testing providers. However it is not usual for this equipment to be tested during an EICR.
The IET have recently addressed this issue in the current version of the code of practice for in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment. Whilst the frequency to which fixed appliances are tested can be much longer than the duration for other appliances. Fixed appliance testing should be given attention as part of your PAT testing management.
The problem many PAT testing providers have is that current staff lack the skill and knowledge to safely isolate and then reconnect such equipment after testing. Anyone who lacks the required skill and competence should not interfere with the fixed electrical wiring within a building.
This is not a problem we suffer as our engineers are all industry qualified, experienced, competent and skilled electricians. We can provide a complete PAT testing safety solution reducing the need for end users to find alternate companies to deliver different aspects of electrical safety testing.
